Carissa here, sharing a burgeoning new passion: dog agility photography. I stumbled into the wonderful world of dog agility as a participant, not photographer, along with one of my dogs, Marius. Not surprisingly, I realized along the way how much fun it would be to document these events. 4RK9 in Cedar Rapids has been so welcoming — the people and the pups. Their offerings include classes and open workouts in both agility and obedience. These dogs are amazing! You can tell that they absolutely love what they’re doing. There is so much positive energy at an agility event, whether competition agility or just for fun. Dog agility and training in general is a rush of happiness for everyone involved.I love 4RK9’s take on training: “our philosophy of training is built around positive training through trainer enthusiasm, use of treats, toys, and lavish praise.”Fun fact: my dog Marius (the black golden doodle pictured above) is an “old” beginner. At seven, he is late to the game of agility; that’s not stopping him from conquering every obstacle I put in front of him. We even participated in a competitive NADAC trial recently (we’ll save that for another blog post). Also pictured above is the newest member of the pack and future agility dog, Capo!
